So, this is ridiculously exciting in the fact that this is my first original design that I've brought to life! The cosplays are fun and it's exciting to see people's reactions to them, but this one? This one is MINE and even though I have no idea when I'll actually wear it, I love it so much!
It turned out almost EXACTLY like I had drawn, which I'm totally THRILLED by.
The only difference was the flounce at the bottom; the skirt ended up five inches too short, so I had to add length and in order to do that and not make it look weird, I just made a flounce. But I like it! And just LOOK at those sleeves!
Made the top hat, too, though I wanna make another one that's better and not so rushed. Still, it made an impression.
Oh, and the really hilarious/awesome part? The red fabric that I made most of the dress out of is a sheet I bought from a thrift store. See, I make a habit of buying sheets to use when I design my own patterns, doing a mock-up of it to first make sure it all works. Well, I brought this lovely red one home and just kinda tossed it onto my mannequin when it had my Tamaki hoop skirt on. The fabric just DRAPED and flowed so beautifully that I stood back and went. "O_O Oh, you just got promoted to REAL fabric!" And my goodness, it is so soft!
So, my design, my sewing work (ALL SEMESTER, YO) and my sweat, blood and tears. Really quite happy, altogether.
