Grandma's Vase

Description

Okay, this is the last of the stuff I did during school. I wanted to hold off uploading it 'cause I made it specifically for my grandma and I only just recently presented it to her at the family reunion I was at this last week. Even if she's not on deviantART, a couple of my cousins are and I didn't wanna spoil the surprise.

So, when I asked my dad for ideas as to what I could make for Grandma, he told me that she has this camellia bush in her back yard. Camellias are huge blossoms (that's the flower I tried to mimic on the pot) with short stems, so I designed this with that in mind. But the regular vase seemed too boring, so I looked up pictures of camellias and made one to go on the pot.

I tell you, a lot of love and anxiety went into this piece. I kid you not, I prayed for this thing to come through safely. That it wouldn't explode in the kiln or be destroyed by someone ELSES exploding too near it. My stomach felt funny on the days I knew it was being fired. After it was bisque fired, I put it in my locker for safe keeping, afraid that curious hands wouldn't be careful enough. But I won't go into how much glaze annoys me...

So anyway! This'll be the last piece of pottery you'll see from me in a while! Made with lotsa love for my grandma, this is another one I won't be selling. And actually, I ended up giving away all the rest of my pieces in my gallery, so if you liked one a lot, sorry, shoulda spoken up sooner.
